-
-
Installation Target

-
-

- The installation "target" is the location on your hard drive(s) where you
- wish to install OpenLinux. Space for OpenLinux on your system needs to
- be allocated either during this installation procedure or prior to
- installation.
-

-
-

- There are three different target schemes to choose from:
-

-
-
-
Entire Hard Disk

-
-

- This option permits you to select an entire hard disk for your
- Linux system. Note that with this option selected, you are acknowledging
- that the contents of the disk drive you select will be completely lost!
-

-
-

- If you would prefer to only allocate certain
- partitions on your hard disk(s) for use
- with Linux, choose the Custom (Expert only!) option instead.
-

-
-
-
Prepared Partition(s)

-
-

- If you created partitions for your Linux system prior to beginning
- this installation session, select this option. The installation will
- attempt to detect which existing partitions were intended to hold a Linux
- system and will mark them for processing later in the installation
- procedure.
-

-
-

- If you have not already created partitions for your Linux system, you
- will have to choose either the Entire hard disk or Custom
- (Expert only!) option to create them.
-

-
-
-
Custom (Expert only!)

-
-

- This option is especially helpful if you want to install Linux to individual
- partitions on a hard disk without destroying other partitions on the same
- disk. With the Custom option selected, you have total control
- over every aspect of the partitioning, starting and ending cylinders
- and the type of the partition being created.
-

-
-

- Note that because of the complexity of partitioning, it is recommended that
- you enter this option with prior knowledge of what disk partitioning is all
- about. This is truly an expert option just like the title says. Online
- help is provided to help you quickly learn about partitioning. There
- needs to be a level of comfort with the technical aspects of hard
- drive partitioning in order to successfully complete this process.
-
- If you are uncomfortable about doing detailed technical things with your
- computer's hardware, please, get someone who is experienced to
- offer help or consider one of the other partitioning options!
